The One Where Running Seems To Hate Me

When it rains it pours, right?

At least that’s the way it has seemed lately for me when it comes to running. I have obviously pissed off the running gods in some way, but I have no idea what I did.

Thankfully I am not injured (YET!), knock on wood people, knock on lots of wood! But in the last few weeks everything else seems to be going awry.

For example, my treadmill, still broken by the way and I’m still ridiculously depressed about it. I know it’s weird to be depressed over a broken treadmill but seriously, if you had something that cost that much money and took up that much space in your room I think you would be depressed too. I mean it’s like having a car just sitting there that doesn’t work. I also find I have no issue when it comes to being motivated to get my miles in if I can just hop on right after work, so it’s really been putting a kink in my style with all the extra planning I have to do to get to the gym or run outside, which we all know isn’t happening all that much, therefore runs get skipped or I end up running 10 miles on a treadmill….that was fun I tell ya!

Anyways, Alex is going to look into trying to get a cheaper replacement motor because we have narrowed down the problem to it being the motor, but until then I either go to the gym or just pout. But it has become a great place to hang my clothes on, perspective people, it’s all about perspective.

My second problem as of late has been my Garmin. If you know me then you know I love my Garmin, love it! Almost as much as the aforementioned treadmill and since that has been broken my Garmin has been my friend, when I run outside that is. Well last week when I went to use my Garmin it was dead, that’s why I had to run naked last week… so since then it has been sitting on the charger waiting for my next venture out of doors. It’s been 10 days; 10 days should be plenty to charge that up right? Wrong! I took it off the charger yesterday morning and stuck it in my bag to use last night for my hill workout and about an hour before said run it died. Yep, blank screen and all. It didn’t even make it 12 hours! I was so irritated. I really don’t like running without one, and I really don’t like carrying my phone and having to use that for GPS. I have no idea what the issue is but I’m thinking it needs a new battery. Is it possibly to get a new battery for a Garmin? I guess I’ll be doing some research on that one too. Hopefully that won’t cost as much as a treadmill motor, I’m on a budget here and neither one of those purchases are anywhere even remotely close to being on my budget.

(But therapy might have to be on the budget soon if neither one of these problems has a solution in the near future!)

Add to that I’ve been experiencing some pretty severe DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) the past couple of day. I mean that was kind of to be expected given the fact that it’s been 6 months since I have even come close to running 10 miles, let alone 10 miles without stopping. So yes, I can’t really complain about this one except for the fact that it was so bad last night after being on my feet for a few hours that the thought of even putting on my running shoes just wasn’t even happening. So, I missed yet another run.

Missing that run along with the fact that my Garmin died and Alex told me that I couldn’t have frozen yogurt all just sent me into a downward spiral of one-hot-bad-mood-mess. Poor Alex should get an award for single-handedly putting his foot down on my need (but not really a NEED) for yogurt so I wouldn’t regret it today and for dealing with my moodiness last night; I was a real treat, let me tell you.

Anyways, there really is no purpose to this post other than to whine and gripe and throw a pity-party for myself over all these first-world problems I am experiencing right now. I apologize if I have offended anyone and I am hoping the mood passes quickly. I mean after all it is already Thursday when it feels like Wednesday. And Saturday I have the Color Me Rad 5k that should be super exciting, if it doesn’t rain that is; see, when it rains it pours!

But seriously, if anyone knows anything about treadmill motors, Garmin watch batteries or DOMS, or you just feel the need to tell me to suck it up, feel free to leave me a comment I promise I won’t bite your head off!

Happy, albeit slightly cranky, Thursday!

Ugh. I hate it when my running gadgets don't work!! I don't have a garmin but I use my ipod nano nike+ and I hate those days when I realize it needs to be charged.

I think....you have to send the garmin back to garmin...and if it's within a year they will replace for free...but I don't think you can replace it yourself!
10 miles is a long way! Does the yoga help with the soreness?

To be fair, I would bitch and gripe if my husband told me I couldn't have frozen yogurt...I am addicted to the self-serve places around here. Seriously addicted.

I've had Garmins die on me the same way. I've found after a while - all the sweat, use, etc - they just stop working. But, call Garmin support. They are really helpful and if it's within warranty they will send you a new one!

Have fun at the Color Me Rad this weekend! My sister is going to the one in Richmond and I'm sad I can't go.
I've never used a Garmin but I've been a lover of running for about a year now. Should I invest in one? Found you from the blog hop!

I would definitely invest in a Garmin, but only if you truly care about mileage and pace! I do and it has been a great investment. I really love my 405 model. However, Garmin did just come out with the Forerunner 10 and it would be a perfect place to start if you are unsure about using one. It's much cheaper and doesn't seem too complicated!
Thanks for following!

Hell hath no fury like me when the boyfriend tells me NO to frozen yogurt!! I do the EXACT same thing. I tell him not to let me have it, but then I'm SO MAD at him when he actually sticks to it and says no! Hahaha! We women are crazy. :)
