The One Where I Wore A Skirt Over My Dress (an OOTD post)

That’s right, the Unlikely Runner is doing an Outfit Of The Day post, I’m as shocked as you guys are! Honestly, fashion is not my thing, it’s just not. I have a decent eye by most standards but it’s just not a gift I possess. If I could be completely fashionable in workout attire I would, but sadly I can’t.

On most days I do manage to look presentable and somewhat with the times; most of my clothing comes from Target or Old Navy (and is always from the clearance rack, always!!) and is within the season so I know I’m not too far off but for the most part if I have a fashion/hair/make-up question I will always, always call my sisters. My middle sister actually cuts my hair (what a saint!) and if you see me at any major event where I have to look nice you can guarantee one of my sisters has either dressed me, done my make-up or helped with my hair, man I’m so glad I have sisters!

So yesterday, when I put together this lovely little ensemble you better believe I was really proud of myself! Not only did I put together a professional looking outfit that looked cute, but I also got really creative with layering.

That yellow top, yeah, it’s actually a dress! It’s a dress I got a long time ago on sale at Old Navy (I think it was like $5) not really knowing what I would wear it for but I thought it was cute. It turns out that it makes me look like a box because it has no shape to it at all, it’s also a little short for work day attire but I have held on to it for some reason.

The skirt I got about a year and a half ago at a thrift store for $1 and the belt was from a resale shop for $3. The shoes came from Target on sale for $6 about a year ago.

When I pulled the dress out I initially put a black shirt over it but decided that was too bumble-bee-ish and so I pulled the tan one out and then added a belt for a slimmer look. I was very proud of the outfit yesterday and even got several compliments.

So there you have it, I may be finally starting to pick up some of the tips my sisters have been teaching me for years. I would still live in yoga pants and tennis shoes all day if I could but at least I know I look presentable at work! I know my sisters would be proud!

You look great! I have to admit, I totally slack on my work attire - I really need to put more effort into it. The weird thing is, I actually take care in picking out my running outfits :) I guess because I am in running clothes more often than not.

Thank you! I am actually guilty of caring more about my running clothes as well. I debated sometimes for days about what to wear to a race lol.

Thank you! I never really thought yellow was a good color on me but I guess when you pair it right it works!
