The Starting Line

It all started at Run On; I think I owe them my life. My world was dark and lonely and I was just struggling to get by. I had been thru a very sad and humbling situation and I needed something to distract me. I wasn't new to this thing called running, in fact we were quite familiar. As a kinesiology major and high school athlete running was a part of my life. But I had never identified myself as a runner, although I had wanted to. So with the dream of running the 8 mile Turkey Trot I jumped in feet first to a training class. It was there I met two wonderful women that helped me run towards hope. An unlikely trio we truly are, at different stages and places in our lives, but that doesn't seem to matter when it's just us and the street. We've shared, we've bonded, we may have even cried, but once we completed that first race we knew we were stuck. We finished our class and ran our big race and then decided we can do it from here. I was kindly named the 'slave driver' for my need to be in charge (I unfortunately cannot help it). I came up with a training schedule and made them print it out. I have put mine at my desk as a daily reminder, there's might be in the trash! So we laced up our shoes and we took off. We completed a 5k recently and all had 'personal best' times. This past Sunday we achieved our longest distance yet, a 15K (9.3 miles). We all did it in under 2 hours!! Now we have in front of us a year full of half marathons, 5k's, 10k's, triathlons and even the Warrior Dash. Please follow our progress as we achieve our goals, develop new dreams and learn about ourselves as we learn from each other. Happy running!
